Midsouth Casters & Equipment, located in Memphis, TN is proud to support the Memphis Rollin’ Grizzlies for another season.  The Memphis Rollin’ Grizzlies, the Mid-South’s only Wheelchair Basketball team kicked off their new 2017/2018 Season this past weekend with a 2nd place finish at the Annual Shepherd Shootout Tournament in Atlanta, GA. The Rollin’ Grizzlies, upsetting the Miami Heat Wheels a top 10 ranked Division I team, in game one on Saturday were later defeated by the Shepherd Steelers of Atlanta later in the day. They finished the weekend with a huge win over the Cardinals of Charlottesville, VA on Sunday securing their 2nd place finish overall.

Division I Wheelchair Basketball is the toughest, most competitive division in wheelchair basketball. With over 200 teams throughout the country, only the top 28 teams are selected to compete in this division. After finishing #3 in the country in Division III two years ago, the Rollin’ Grizzlies were advanced to Division I competition and have struggled to make their mark. “Because there are fewer Division I teams in the NWBA, they are scattered throughout the country. Most Division I teams have the financial resources to travel more frequently but Memphis has struggled to gain that financial support,” Head Coach, Al Greer said. “We have the most talented team we’ve ever had in Memphis,” Greer said, “I feel confident this team can qualify for the National Tournament, if we can get the funding we so desperately need.”

Only the top 16 teams will qualify for the NWBA National Tournament held each April in Louisville Kentucky. “We missed the opportunity last season, our first year in Division I because our budget simply wasn’t met and we weren’t able to play enough games to qualify.” The Rollin’ Grizzlies are receiving tournament invites from all over the country, but once again their budget is hindering their travel.

The Memphis Rollin’ Grizzlies; a non-profit organization, operates solely on donations from local businesses and individuals.
